A show, the audience and interactivity

June 5, 2010

‘Coming across some issues now regarding how I am going to show this (oh yes, I am very aware of the lateness of this discovery!)

Trying to talk through the pros and cons of having this as a live website at the show – will people just pass it by (website on a small screen)?  Should I split it to two computer screens?  Should I run a film on a screen, and have the interactive element stand alone on the computer?

I always intended this to be a website – and hoped that people anywhere (not just at the show) could and would access it.  BUT, the cons are that as this is a gallery showing, will it (a simple computer with website) be enticing enough to draw in people?  What happens if someone leaves half way through the ‘journey’ of the site, leaving it unfinished?  What page will the next person see? Will they just walk past… do I need ugly ‘home’ links after all?  It seems that as I want it to run automatically, yet want an element of interactivity, I could have issues here.  Not on the website, but will I need to slightly alter this for the show itself?  WE are booking equipment, and time is running out, yet as my work is only just unfolding, it is only now I can see the issues and work out what I might need.

I guess I can always just book equipment myself – it will cost more, but if I don’t know for sure in time, well that is that. It will only be possibly another computer or a tft with DVD…  I don’t want to drive my peers nuts with my uncertainty, and so will leave my original request for equipment as it is for now.

The issue of just how workable a normal website is, is an important consideration.

Much more pondering tomorrow.  I will have it decided by tomorrow.

Ahh Pixelated Postcards…

June 5, 2010

My postcard image has already caused some trouble.  I feared as it is an intentionally pixelated screen grab (ie low res) – that this could possibly cross the lines of ‘simply a badly pixelated image’.  I expected this online (we are so often annoyed with low res images on the web), but when I printed it out, I felt it had a wonderful, almost watercolour kind of feel – ethereal maybe…

maybe I am blind to my baby’s imperfections - but it was intended to look pixelated / constructed via the pc…. / mid-process of the gathering of pixels as the eye slowly comes in focus…

maybe I could have added some more imagery or some kind of border to show that it was intentional???  Probably…  Hmmmm the rebel in me wants to leave it as is….  think I will, hope I don’t regret it… it is, after all,  just a postcard.  And I like it.  :)
